"Out" is a series that abstractly illustrates the coming out story. This series explores the individuality within each person's story, and highlights the importance of shared experiences.
This project was conceived and started by my good friend Nick Labate, who created the first animation in the series: vimeo.com/330691371
AJ is the second in this series. Although they have figured out who they are now, it took many discoveries and changes to get there. Here, they recall a startling encounter in high school and how they continued to move forward.
This animation is a mixture of 2D and 3D animation techniques. In the video above, you can see the initial 2D animation compared with the final video, which composites in 3D elements as well as texture to create the final gritty look.
